James Sowerby (1757–1822) was an influential English naturalist, botanist, and illustrator, renowned for his detailed and vibrant botanical illustrations. He contributed significantly to the scientific understanding of British era through his artistic talents, which he used to make scientific information more accessible. Sowerby’s most famous work is English Botany, a monumental 36-volume publication that contained over 2,500 hand-colored engravings of British plants. The illustrations were lauded for their accuracy and artistic beauty.
