Raja Ravi Varma is an iconic Indian artist. He is famous for his unique oil paintings, mainly depicting scenes from epics like Mahabharata and Ramayana. His work combined western realism with Hindu iconography, painting deities, Gods, and Goddess in the likeness of humankind.
He was instrumental in making affordable lithographs of his paintings available to the public. His work increased the involvement of the common people with fine art and moulded their artistic tastes.
