Shiva, Parvati Tanjore : Tamil Nadu : c. 1940
This Tanjore is traditionally composed with the main subject depicted under a golden theatrical archway. It is an illustration of Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvathi and Shiva’s vahana or vehicle Nandi bull. Lord Shiva is seated on a golden throne on top of Nandi Bull and Goddess Parvathi is seated beside him. Parvathi is depicted with a green completion, in her right hand she holds a lotus and the other is in Varada Mudra. Nandi is decorated with gold jewellery and flowers. On either side of the bull, are four devotees attending to Lord Shiva.
